How the guides are made

Method

Every site in a guide is a working business website, opened in Chrome at 1440 by 900 pixels and captured on the date shown. Popups are closed the way a visitor would close them. Sites that block the visit are left out, never replaced with a mockup.

Each entry names one move worth copying and, where a site trips up, says so. The counts at the end of each guide come from the same first screens, so you can check them against the pictures.
